Most impressive in this book are his historic tableau, some single page, others multi-page strips, including \u003cem\u003ePiers the Ploughman\u003c\/em\u003e of 14th century England, \u003cem\u003eMy Secret Life\u003c\/em\u003e by \"Walter,\" \u003cem\u003eRough Women of the Dark Ages\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eThe Apache Dance\u003c\/em\u003e, from a 1930s Parisian postcard. His Rapidographed cross hatching is superb as ever and \u003cstrong\u003ewe are treated to long screeds displaying his undimmed brilliance at analyzing the human condition\u003c\/strong\u003e, in a morbid but nonetheless amusing way.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e One could say there are no surprises in content, as Crumb has produced a consistent body of work over the last 40, if not 50, years, yet each page is also jarringly different from the one before, due to his personal juxtaposition of images.
